It’s your future

Perhaps it’s what you always wanted to do, which is reason enough. But a UK qualification in Design can also be the starting point for a rewarding – and profitable – career. The creative industries are one of the world’s growth sectors, and in uncertain economic times, a better bet than many so-called ‘safer’ professions. And did you know that nearly a quarter of all designers in the UK work on a freelance or self-employed basis, many of them from home-based offices or studios?

Upgrading your qualifications can be a big bonus too. On average, graduates earn up to 47% more than those educated to A level or equivalent standard.

The numbers add up

No, it’s not the cheapest option, but beware diplomas that no one will recognise, and support that’s not there when you need it. You get what you pay for. With us, that means first rate learning materials, lots of one to one support and after all your efforts, a world class qualification valued by employers and universities everywhere.

No fee increases

With more and more universities planning to charge the maximum fee allowable from 2012, it seems likely that the average cost of a university course could be around £8,000 per year. The cost of studying with IDI is half that, and take it from us we intend to keep it that way – our aim is to keep the cost of studying at IDI as low as possible. To help you manage your fees we offer a range of payment options, including monthly instalments, and you can also apply for help through fee and course grants*. Not only that, you can continue to work, and earn, while you study.

So it’s worth thinking twice about the cost of going to a traditional university. Ask yourself – do you really want to end up with that much debt?

You’re never alone

If you think studying online might be a bit of a lonely business, think again. We believe students working from home need more support, not less. That’s exactly what you’ll get - one to one support from qualified tutors throughout your studies, plus dedicated course managers to offer help and advice whenever you need it. You’ll also become part of an online community of learners from around the world.

We’ve made it easy

Well, as easy as we can. Getting a degree is always hard work, but studying with IDI you won’t have to turn your life upside down as well. You can study from home, and combine your studies with work or family commitments. We bring it all to you – a world beating study environment, great learning materials, fantastic support. All you have to do is log on.

As a student you will find that every aspect of your innovative learning and teaching experience is delivered through the Interactive Design Institute’s bespoke online study environment, IDI Study. Our study environment is carefully designed to be not only user friendly but also secure and reliable. All IDI students have access to a secure, personal online studio where all module learning materials are stored and where communication with your tutors and fellow students takes place.

Courses are carefully structured to enable you to acquire the knowledge and understanding required to fulfil the course learning outcomes. Effective course delivery is a priority and is carried out through project based activities where you will learn through engagement in a variety of set tasks. Support materials that supplement this project based work are provided throughout the learning experience.

As a student, you will record your work in a variety of ways; these can include photographs, scanned images, screen grabs, word files or pdfs. As you progress through the activities, you will be required to upload examples of your work to named folders within your ‘my work’ area, notifying your tutor by posting a message in the module discussion each time you upload.

As an IDI student, you will develop confidence and communication skills through participation in self and peer based evaluation of your work and the work of your fellow students within structured online forum activities.

Tutors will provide critical advice and feedback to you on a one to one basis within separate module discussions. You will interact with fellow students within online forums, where you can share images and explore a range of issues which may include, communication, design aesthetics, user needs and aspirations, employability, materials and processes, human factors, and issues surrounding preparation for the world of work. The learning experience is further enhanced through a series of formal Critical and Cultural Studies modules, which provide a context for your research and practice.
