IDI Budapest Student Placement

IDI student from Budapest undertakes placement in UK

Earlier this month we were delighted to welcome one of our Hungarian students, Zita Katona to the UK. As part of an EU funded Erasmus programme Zita is taking a break from her studies with IDI where she has just completed level one of her course in Graphic Design & Illustration to undertake a professional practice placement at The Centre for Advanced Textiles at Glasgow School of Art.  At this innovative institution, digital technology allows designs and images to be printed directly from computer to fabric creating exciting opportunities for customised design and allowing photographic quality reproduction on to natural fabrics.

In addition to her studies with IDI, Zita is also enrolled as a Fashion Design student in Budapest.

A student with the Interactive Design Institute since August 2008, Zita was delighted to be chosen from a substantial number of applicants:
“I sent my CV and a covering letter to a number of UK textile companies and accepted the opportunity at CAT, which was my first choice anyway.”
This placement will give Zita the opportunity to work in variety of different disciplines where the crossover of skills will benefit her own practice. It is Zita’s intention to use the combination of skills she acquires through her studies with IDI and Glasgow School of Art to promote her own work in Budapest.
While participating in a variety of live client based projects at The Centre for Advanced Textiles, including “Top Shop”, Zita has the opportunity to design and prepare digitally printed cloth for her own fashion collection, which has been inspired by the work of Charles Rennie  Macintosh.  Zita is currently writing her dissertation based on her experience of her process which involved using photographs and drawings and then manipulating the images to create repeat print ideas which were then digitally printed on to fabrics of her choice.

While she is based in Glasgow, Zita has taken the opportunity to visit many other areas of Scotland.
“I really like it here, and I have been through many amazing and inspiring experiences and I’ll definitely try to come back for a permanent job once I’ve finished my studies”
