Applications to Scottish Universities reaches an all time high

February 2010

According to official figures released in January 2010, applications to Scottish universities have risen by an unprecedented 31% over the last year to 38,763 with the majority, 28,000, coming from school leavers. The remaining 10,763 applicants came mainly from older people seeking opportunities outwith the decreasing jobs market.

IDI's Latest Recruit

January 2010

We are delighted to welcome Jerry Meldrum to our team. Jerry has taken on the role of Recruitment Officer and comes to us with a professional background in recruitment and sales. A graduate in Psychology from Edinburgh University, Jerry is also a keen singer, performing with a variety of choirs and theatrical societies in and around Edinburgh. In addition, he is involved in fundraising and assists with charitable projects both in the UK and abroad.

Further University Funding Cuts Forecast

January 2010

In the latest round of financial cuts expected to affect the higher education sector, the government is proposing  measures which some sources say may reduce funding to universities by 20%.

Senior civil servants have been tasked with drawing up plans for reducing expenidure on public spending across Whitehall by up to one fifth. Despite assurances by the government that spending in higher education will rise, university staff fear that their funding will suffer.

 If this is the case, the result could be widespread closures of university departments and the loss of 5,000 university posts. As many as 30 at risk universities could face complete closure as they spiral towards financial meltdown.

IDI to absorb VAT increase

January 2010

As citizens of the UK are aware, the standard rate of VAT was temporarily reduced to 15 per cent on 1 December 2008 and returned to 17.5 percent on 1 January 2010.
This means that any sales of standard-rated goods or services made on or after 1 January 2010 must charge VAT at the rate of 17.5 per cent.

New Students for 2009

We are delighted to welcome students starting courses in this academic session. We have new students from throughout the UK as well as from countries further afield, including Sweden, Hungary and Bahrain. We also look forward to welcoming students this session from Indonesia, Dubai and Iran.

Student BIDA Membership

December 2009

IDI students now have the opportunity to become members of the British Interior Design Association. We have recently been informed by the British Institute of Interior Design (incorporating BIDA; the British Interior Design Association) that Interactive Design Institute students studying an interior design course may join BIDA as student members.
