Demand is soaring for university places this September, with a recent media report signalling that thousands face disappointment due to a government cap on places. The record demand for places puts extra pressure on universities, who have been told they must save £200m this year.

We would like to welcome our first cohort of students from Iran who have begun their studies towards a BA in Product Design: Furniture Production. Many of these students, who are based in Tehran are combining their studies with a course in English language.
All the staff at IDI would like to offer their congratulations to Petra Sudi who has recently completed her Level 3 Diploma in Foundation Studies ; Art & Design with our partner institution in Budapest, Denis Gabor College. Petra is the first of our Hungarian students to complete this award.
We would like to extend our congratulations to Kris Paterson who has gained a distinction in his Level 3 Foundation Diploma.
Based in Bilbao, Spain, Kris was particularly interested in studying Painting & Sculpture and discovered the online Foundation course provided by the Interactive Design Institute would allow him to study where and when he wanted, before progressing to the degree course of his choice.
The UK government is urging the university sector to adopt a more cost effective and flexible approach to course delivery to enable more students to participate in higher education. Distance Learning and online learning in particular are being considered as a viable alternative to traditional, face to face, attendance based delivery. Staff at the Interactive Design Institute are delighted to announce that one of our Hungarian students, Luca Molner, has recently been recruited by one of the largest illustration agencies in the world; Illustration Ltd.
Luca began studying Graphic Design and Illustration with IDI through our partner in Budapest Denis Gabor College in September 2009 because she wanted to work towards gaining a UK qualification.
We are pleased to report that our collaborative partner, The University of Hertfordshire has risen four places in the Complete University Guide; the league table for universities in the UK. Hertfordshire is now placed 41st in a league comprising 115 universities. The Guide is intended for students considering the university most suited to their needs.
The latest statistics published by NESTA (the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts. - the largest single endowment in the UK exclusively devoted to innovation) indicate that between 2009 and 2013, the creative industries in the UK will grow by 4%. This represents a growth rate that is double that anticipated in the rest of the economy.
