Radical rethink to higher education

'We must radically rethink the way we see higher education' says David Willetts, Universities Minister.

Since David Willetts first took up his post as Universities Minister just over 12 months ago, he has weathered opposition from students to his plans for raising annual tuition fees to £9,000, fought to get his fees proposals through the House of Commons and written a White Paper on the future of higher education.

Despite the furore all this has caused within the education community, Willetts is still adamant that the package that has finally emerged will end up being a good deal for students.
"I think that we have achieved a hell of a lot and I think we've achieved something that's eluded successive governments," he says "We've put finance of higher education on a solid strong financial footing. If anything, more cash goes to universities, but because it comes from students and loans, it will in the long term reduce the fiscal deficit."
Fortunately, the Interactive Design Institute is less concerned with the “fiscal deficit” and more interested in providing a first class student experience that is delivered flexibly and affordably. However, the Institute concurs with Mr Willetts view that the UK’s approach to the provision of higher education programmes does need urgent review. The rapidly growing demand for modes of course delivery other than the face to face, attendance based model has led to a marked increase in student enrolments at IDI. This is due in part to the Institute’s policy of keeping student fees to an affordable level.

Flexible, affordable learning
Once again the Interactive Design Institute are holding their fees at the same level as last year. IDI offrers a range of discounts and flexible payment options. And for the first time students enrolling on our BA Graphic Design course will be able to apply for fee and course grants to support their studies. Grants of up to £1,495 per year are available to qualifying students.

We are now accepting applications for our degree level courses starting in June 2011. We have places available in Graphic Design, Illustration Interior Design, Photography, Interactive Media Design and Product Design
