You're in control. Unlike most students, you can choose when you want to study, and where you want to study. We offer a few handy hints to make it a great experience.Less is moreLittle and often – that’s the way to do it. Whatever other commitments you have, set aside regular times during each week for your studies. Trying to cram everything into the occasional lengthy session is a mistake – better to study regularly, even if it’s only for a short while each time. That way, you’ll keep on top of things. Learn the value of routine – plan out your weekly timetable, and keep to it. And listen to your body clock. Some of us are night owls, some early birds – stick to what’s best for you. Get organisedYour online studio is a great help here – all your learning materials to hand, and your work neatly organised in folders. But you’ll be completing your practical projects offline, so you’ll need to think about a place to work. Ideally, you’ll want somewhere where you can lay out your materials and the pieces you’re working on without having to pack up at the end of each session. A kitchen table is okay, but a desk in the corner of a room which you can call your own is better. You’ll need a drawer to store your artwork, and somewhere to keep pencils, brushes and inks. Take controlDon’t wait for things to happen – get studying! The more you put into your course, the more you’ll get out. Upload your work regularly, and let your tutors know how you’re getting along. Check the announcements, and use the online forums to chat to other students and find out how they’re doing. Look ahead to see what projects are coming up. When it comes to assessments – be prepared. Make sure you know the assessment timetable, and don’t leave things until the last minute. Talk to usBeing an independent learner gives you great flexibility, but remember you're not on your own. The reason we offer lots of support is because we want to give you all the help we can, so communicate with your tutors regularly. And let us know right away if you’re finding things difficult – that way we can help get you back on your feet. |
