Textiles

Textile Design Courses Online

Textile design covers a broad area, involving the creation of textiles themselves in addition to the creation of two-dimensional designs that can be applied to different textile types. The main areas of textile design are print, weave and knit, with textiles being used across a broad range of products.

The main areas in which textiles are used include textiles for fashion; for shirts, blouses, dresses, suits, coats, swimwear and textiles for interiors; such as soft furnishings, upholstery, towels, rugs and carpets. There are also specialist textiles for specific purposes, such as protective or performance clothing. Textile design can also be applied to packaging, ceramics, and even stationary and greetings cards.

Those wishing to enter the textile design industry are advised to undertake a formal qualification and there are several textile design courses available through distance learning.

The Interactive Design Institute’s fully accredited, online Textile design course will introduce students to the technology required for all specialist textiles and their applications.
